It all started when…
I got my start in the world of dog sports in 2003 with my first dog, Aspen. Aspen is all I could have hoped for in a first dog—highly intelligent, handler focused, and very forgiving! Unfortunately, Aspen has a genetic condition that caused her to developed severe arthritis in her spine, hips, and elbows starting around age 5, which meant she had to retire from sports earlier than I expected. I got my next dog, Quiz, in 2006. Quiz is my heart and soul. He is a “bro dog”—loves to hang out with crowd, especially when food is involved! Quiz was born without properly form cartilage in his lungs, which makes just breathing quite the task. At one point, he wasn’t expected to live past his 6th birthday. He is 14 now!
With two excellent “starter” dogs, after graduation I was ready to commit to a serious sports dog. I began researching breeds while still in vet school, and after some debate, finally settled on the Belgian Groenendael. It just so happened that a fantastic litter in France coincided with my vet school graduation perfectly, so I enlisted the help of a Belgian Tervuren handler experienced in importing dogs. Zelly is everything I wanted and more! She immediately took to the water, which is a great asset living in Texas, and prompted me to try out dock diving for the first time.
In college, I studied Bio-medical Sciences at Texas A&M University, where I graduated early to pursue veterinary medicine. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015, and currently practice in Austin, TX.
